of Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights... and talents
I saw the movie mentioned above last night. The dancing was awesome! Diego Luna is fine... but Gael Garcia may be finer. hehe. :) anyway, it made me think about how much i loved to dance. There's nothing like getting out on the dance floor and letting the music move you. I truly think that some of my happiest times are on the dance floor, pounding my feet to the beat. Anyway, this movie just made me wish that i knew how to latin dance... i've always wanted to learn it but i never had the chance.
haaayyy... :) dancing is ... well, i think, it's probably the only real "talent" that i have. sure, i can play the piano (and damn man, after about 9 years of learning i should be able to!) but i can't play it the way my mom does or the way my other friends from high school did. it wasn't natural... i really had to practise hard to be able to play well and the irony of it all.. i DIDN'T LIKE PRACTISING! i started on the violin, which i truly did like but i didn't continue because BIS didn't have the best violin teachers. now aneka is learning it and i'm envious because she can actually play it. and singing? forget it! i can't sing in tune MOST OF THE TIME!! hahaha!! and drawing?? goodness, even my stick people don't look decent!!
i come from such an artistic and talented family that i sometimes wonder why some of those talents skipped me. i have a little sister who is pitch perfect and is really a good piano player, i have another sister who learnt the guitar on her own, can draw and is playing the violin (and apparently, she can act too!), my mom can play the piano (and a bunch of other instruments), dance and is pitch perfect (altho she can't sing) and my dad can sing really well AND play the guitar. plus the fact that i have all these titos, titas and lolos and lolas with their own cool talents. actually, what i'm most envious of is (not even the drawing man, i can live without the drawing) the MUSIC. in some form or another, they can play or sing it well, whether they can read music or not. i have titos who listen to a music and then play it on the piano right after hearing it. :o
i can't do any of that.
but then i realize, i'm gifted with Music too.. just in a different form. i'm able to appreciate all kinds of music because i truly love hearing it. but most of all, i can move to music... and according to people, move really well, whatever kind it is.
so.. well.. dancing.. it's mine. and i'm glad that it is. sometimes i don't even mind that i can't really play the piano as well as i wanted to, or the guitar or the violin. that i can't really pick out the slightest off-key note or draw decent stick people.
i can dance. and i love it. i wish i had formal training or even the right skills but the fact that i can move well and enjoy it... well, that's good enough for me.
now all i need is for someone to teach me those cool latin dances i've always wanted to learn and i'll be happy. :)
