How to be Happy, DAMMIT: Life Lesson no. 2
The pain back in Life Lesson no. 1 is for your own benefit (see my entry below for details)
You were being taught how to breathe, invited to suck down a yummy oxygen/nitrogen cocktail. That painful whack was necessary for your growth.
Of course, had you been told this at that time, you still would not have understood with your naive lil baby mind.
And so it goes for much of the pain in your life. Often you need to evolve a bit more before you can understand a bit more.
By now you know: you live in a world of 1,000,001 interpretations
By now you know: you must resist staying stuck on 1.

I love the last two lines in this particular life lesson. It is quite true after all. I mean, everything that happens to us in this life are all open to interpretation. This is the reason why we are forever questioning "why" because we are always searching for understanding. Eventually, we realize that as time goes on and we think back on a certain experience, the answers to the "why's" in that particular experience become numerous. As the lesson says: resist staying stuck on 1.
I figure, if you stay stuck on 1 interpretation, it means you haven't grown up enough to understand what has happened to you. I've realized that everything i did in the past has been able to help me in a number of different ways right now. Every shit i went through helped me deal with a lot of other shit right now.
While pain is something we can definitely do without, it's something we will have to accept. But i guess, we don't have to wallow in it. Sure, grieve for a while, for as long as it takes you to get over it. But don't let it bring you down forever. Instead, tuck it away... and then realize when you look back that you have grown. It has helped. And it's made you healthier now.

I love this part of the book. Because i tend to look back quite a lot and be proud of everything i've gone through. kahit na i cried rivers during those times, i realize now that i wouldn't be who i am now if it weren't for those things.
ah well. shit happens all the time.
we just have to suck it up and smile.
see... i'm on my way to being happy already!! hehehe.
